Red Mars Rebellion

A couple of years ago I read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy and it really made me want to play some kind of miniature game set in that kind of realistic near-future, where humans have colonized Mars and are attempting to slowly terraform it. The two main factions would be the military forces of Earth, tentatively named the Earth Sectorial Army, and the Mars Rebels, normally just referred to as "Reds".

I had this idea and it rolled around in my brain and I gradually started looking at 15mm stuff as the kind of miniatures I wanted simply didn't seem to be available in the traditional 28mm scale. And as I discovered more and more really neat stuff I realized that I'd found exactly what I was looking for! 15mm has boat loads of cool stuff that has a fairly realistic/classic sci fi-vibe to it, it's much cheaper than 28mm, painting it is a breeze and even though the minis are smaller they're still large enough to retain most of the detail. Awesome!

So I bought some stuff from GZG, Khurasan, Blue Moon and Rebel Minis and I'm really loving it! I haven't decided exactly what game system I'll use but my first stop is Stargrunt II from GZG. It's an older system, but it seems pretty cool as I really like the gritty realistic feel to it. But I'm also eyeing Tomorrow's War and Fubar as well as Gruntz. We'll see how it turns out.

Here are some shots of the stuff I've painted so far. I'll take some better group shots later on after the LPL has wrapped up, but this should give you a general idea of what it looks like:

I painted these for the first round of the LPL that had a Civilian theme. The plan is to use these in scenarios as objectives in different ways. Minis from GZG.

This is a recon squad made up of regular line infantry of the Earth Sectorial Army. The miniatures are UNSC marines from GZG (which is cool since I have a UNSC fleet for Full Thrust. Bonus!) and the MATV is from Rebel Minis. I think they go quite well together!

Some heavy infantry of the Earth Sectorial Army. These guys are from Blue Moon Manufacturing and I really like how they're kind of similar to the Japanese Maschinen Krieger line of models.

A small group of rebels, aka "Reds", with walker support. I really like the walkers and the infantry isn't too infantry isn't too bad either, but unfortunately they only come in these five (slightly uninspired) sculpts. I suppose I've become spoiled by GZG and Khurasan...
The infantry is from Rebel Minis and the walkers are DIMOG's from Khurasan.

I have a lot more in the pipeline, but since some of it is heading for the LPL I'll add it here gradually. If you want to follow my progress just use the 15mm tag.
